Wow.
Nope CB got recalled too. But I think he was Secretary Treasurer and not a block rep. I Can't remember if he was both.

He wasn't in my council so I don't know all the details. I believe he was the ANC block rep. I do know that it is very difficult to get recalled under our form of governance and he is the only rep I am aware of that has been successfully recalled. It was a few years ago. I'm sure he will be along shortly to give you his side of the story.

I witnessed an attempted block rep recall in my council in 2004 or 05 and trust me it isn't easy getting the process started. If you are able to get the vote to the council at least you stand a chance, as evidenced by his case. Getting past the initial hurdle to get it to the membership is the hard part.

I don't know Tony, but I've read many of his posts on here. I don't agree with everything he says, but I have no axe to grind. I would just be darn sure I vetted him carefully before voting for him if he were running for a block rep position in my council.

Wasn't TH recalled in that whole ordeal too? Short version (my understanding) is they were voting against their block members survey responses but for what they believe better for all and were vocal about how "sometimes the majority is wrong" to their block members. So the members initiated and successfully recalled them.

It's not necessarily our governance structure that makes a recall hard, but our domicile structure and in all honesty our general level of union knowledge/engagement across the crew force. Most don't live in Memphis where the majority of the blocks are and many don't pay much attention to anything further than the tips of their noses. So getting the info out about a recall and getting the required votes to move it from an agenda item to an actual recall is tough. This is before you add in the general industry fact that all reps are politicians. I know that word has a negative connotation these days, but that is not what I'm getting at here. I'm not questioning their motives in general, I'm saying that unlike many who oppose them they know the rules of the system and how to use them. They know how to make deals and in general see angry, hamfisted recall attempts miles away. Especially in the Internet age where us genius pilots continue to love proving how loud and smart we can be in electronic form. One things for sure, no matter what the vote is we are definitely in silly season.

That's a load of Horse Hockey RE. We have seen this act before and would be foolish to repeat. There were reasons the Membership felt compelled to do the recalls when they did. Those reasons have not changed. As I mention on another thread.......none of this faldera is about the TA, it's all about control of the MEC. To all members out there, here is another question.........if the TA is voted down how will we pay for more negotiations? The way I read our finances we are low, low, low on funds. So what......assessments??? How big ? How long? Whose hand do I feel creeping into my pocket?

Well hell, that's the best reason I've seen to vote yes. Where do I sign?

It's about the TA for me.

Lack of money is a reason to vote yes? I've heard this from someone else too. Why even vote? We should just empower the MEC to vote for us. Again, fear is being used to justify a vote. Vote yes or no because of what you think of the TA and its ramifications. Don't vote one way or another out of fear of the unknown. There is too much at stake with ambiguous language in this TA. A lot of people's QOL will be affected by this TA in a very negative way.

My response was to another Poster who said we have never had recalls before. I simply offered that we had. ALPA 1, FPA and ALPA 2 under both DW and SS and now another failed attempt as of today.

If TC wants to run again, who are you to say he can't? The Membership, Specifically Council 7, will decide if they want him or not.

As to ALPA's finances. I have no idea what the finances are. I don't have inside information, however, I submit that if this TA does not pass, we have multiple options.

1. Membership Assessment
2. ALPA National MCF which we haven't yet touched.
3. We haven't yet explored a Strike Vote

Yes, the MEC can vote to assessment and we would have to approve it. If this doesn't pass, I will be willing to pay. We did it under FPA and everyone voted for an assessment as well as a Temporary increase in Dues

BTW, this has nothing to do with TC running as he won't take office until after the TA vote is counted.

You do not agree with him (many times I don't either) but using your analogy that he a a NO voter and should not be voted in on the MEC. Does that mean all Yes voters should be recalled if this TA Fails?

Did you support the Block 11 recall? he voted NO too, how bout Block 1 or 6?

Why don't we all take a breath and wait for the TA ratification results. If it passes we will have 6 plus years to think about it.

If it Fails, we will need to get our Ducks in a Row and Fast.

Carry on.
