Rock, I don't agree with you but my comments were inappropriate. . I don't want to see anyone suffer from this contract. I don't want to see anyone "choke" as I posted. However this contract goes, I hope we are all in it together.

I agree about the contract language, which is why I changed from a yes voter, to a no voter.
However, I believe at this point we aren't going to change anyone's mind. And if it does get voted in, we need to not accept, "This is our interpretation of this area," while doing nothing. We need to call attention, grieve, call the union---sounds hopeless, but when enough people make noise, it's got to help.

I have had success with telling people that this isn't legal, this isn't per the contract, this is what is supposed to happen, let me talk to your manager. It's amazing how successful you can be when you are calmly certain of the contract, or at least the portion that you are addressing. It doesn't help if you blindly do what you are told, without questioning it, because you don't know any better.
Then again, go ahead, stomp your feet if it makes you happy.

It absolutely floors me that in this day and age, after all the failures of company pension plans, this isn't an absolutely obvious answer. If an American with half a brain can't make more than $160,000 a year AND figure out a way to finance his own retirement, there really is no hope for them. And I know a vast majority of FedEx pilots make a whole heck of a lot more than that, because I am in the least paying seat in the company. So yeah....it isn't rocket science. Invest a little of your off time and figure out how manage your own retirement. You will be stunned at what you can accomplish with the salary we make.
And it isn't all about "I got mine." It's about..."I'm not going to leave my future and the future of my family in the hands of any company or government."

The corporate world has been raping employee retirements for decades. Mostly out of greed and partly out of necessity. It is a trend that has been sliding downhill in the airline industry due to bankruptcies. Fortunately for us, not only have we not been in bankruptcy, we have been very profitable. Comparing us to other retirement plans is just not applicable. It is the attitude of "everyone else is doing it".
I have less than a half a brain, but I realize that there are some things worth fighting for. The concept that we should not fight more on this issue, even if we do not prevail in the end, is sad and dangerous. Over time, that is how benefits get whittled away.
When I got hired in 97, I remember sitting sideways hearing the guys up front saying that we didnt need a union. I thought to myself that this is going to be a long career! And to still see an attitude that thinks we should fund our own retirement because we make a bunch of $ as opposed to fighting to improve what we have is a crying shame.
Yes, I make a lot of $ and should be able to save for retirement. And, FDX makes a ton of $ and should be able to improve my retirement. It is that simple.

It is true that we make a lot of $$. It is also true that we are considered a leader in the ALPA contract world. And to be a leader we need to set the tone for all other airline contracts soon to be.
