FDX 777 fire divert RJTT?

Saw that a FedEx 777 flying PVG-MEM diverted into Tokyo due to a fire indication. Online info is conflicting - some say there was no fire found, others say cargo was removed and the source of fire was found inside a container.

Any details?

Undeclared DG is a serious concern. An onboard cargo fire is the most perilous threat to our profession.

Lithium batteries are number one on that list of possible threats.

Lithium batteries. Period.

"While we do not yet know the cause of this incident, we do know that there were no declared dangerous goods on board the aircraft."

Interesting -- I may be wrong of course, but I thought dangerous goods were not allowed on flights originating from mainland China. Makes me wonder who in flight management would even declare such a statement.

So relieved they got it on the ground when they did.

The restriction is on the DG originating in China, not the flight. DG can transit any Chinese ramp as long as it came from somewhere else.

The key word here is "declared" kids. If it originated somewhere else it would still be declared. So this lower belly freight likely undeclared, and lithium batteries would top my list of usual suspects. CARGO PILOT LIVES MATTER.
