Maintenance delay
When crs calls and says your jet is down just stay in your hotel and we will call you what should your pairing look like? Seems like I am hotel standby with no pay or duty limits. Shouldn't they build a hotel standby? It's a domestic pairing.

You won't get an extra duty period or standby added in cases like this. What you will get if you ask is a STSHOW or one of those related variations. That shows your duty day has started so they can't call you 6 hours into the wait and expect a full duty day left.

You won't get Standby Disruption pay, but you absolutely will get extra duty period pay if your trip winds up with Extra duty periods. But you'll only get that extra duty period pay if CRS actually puts a duty of some sort in the pairing while you're waiting for the plane to be fixed
And possibly trigger extra pay/sub decisions depending upon the delay. |
Of course you'll get extra duty period pay IF you have extra duty periods added to your pairing. But, making an inference from the OP I envision the situation as: told to stay at hotel as plane is broken and then called 6 hours later that it's fixed and transportation is on its way.
In this case (I've personally experienced variations of the above 3 times) you don't get an EXTRA period, you simply get a STSHOW or similar designator which simply starts your duty time within that duty period. I've checked it out with CE, with CRS manager, and with DO and asked to have legal weigh in. Everyone agreed that no extra duty period happened for this situation. Now, if plane isn't fixed within the duty limits, and you are RELEASED back to rest, then different story. I use the "beer test". If I'm legal to have a beer, I should probably get an extra duty period, if I'm not able to have a beer, then my duty clock is running. |
Who answers the phone?
Never do this. Its never good news. |
If they don't put a showtime on your schedule you are never legal to have a beer.

Completely disagree. Without a showtime, you are always legal to have a beer.

Nice to see someone was considerate enough to call them while they were still at the hotel.
