Is MEM ready for "The Big One"?
When deciding where you want to live ...
Some of the largest earthquakes ever recorded in the US have been along the New Madrid fault ... yikes! My understanding is that they reenforced one of the Memphis Mississippi River bridges and have decided to just let the other one fall into the river. Maybe Rwy 27 will collapse and Bob can come back and tell us how he was right all along.

All I need to point to is the hysteria that was created by that nutcase in the late '80s/early '90s who predicted "The Big One" down to a specific day along the New Madrid fault. I was living in Memphis at the time and while in elementary school we were doing earthquake drills constantly.

Mark, do you ever post anything other than what you pick off the internet?
MG2 And Mark, do you ever post anything that isn't doom and gloom with the shocked face emoji at the end? |

I was hoping for a battle of wits but you appear to be unarmed!*?
Let me guess ... you live in Memphis and think it's a great place? I think it's nice that you think that.

Everyone there knows it, but no one is prepared for it.
The area needs a few serious tremors or wake up calls to remind people to get prepared for when the big one does hit. Florida hasn't had a hurricane in 10 years, so everyone has gotten out of practice. When these things are frequent people tend to be ready for them more so than otherwise. But the reality is that the inner city of Memphis will never be prepared, and it will be one of the worst urban disasters ever, on scale of Katrina, perhaps even worse. |
