ALPA Video - Retirement Path

My guess is that the Company wants to show the illusion of bargaining in good faith, outside section 6. Then, when we actually get to section 6, and things stall on the retirement issue, they can tell the third party that the Union wont budge.
Plus, they also will be depleting the Union funds in the process.

But there's no way we would agree to anything other than improvements, so it would be interesting hearing what the offer is.

Interesting conspiracy theory, however, I'm pretty sure the Company really wants to figure out a way to move away from the A fund a lot sooner than that. With all the newhires who are coming on, it's got to be really expensive. Don't know if this is true or just a rumor, but I'd heard with every newhire, they need to put a million dollars into the pension plan to keep it funded. If it's anything close to that, they would not want to delay if they think there's any hope at resolution.

Before we even consider any "alternatives," I think the union leadership should put out a signed letter saying that no FedEx pilot, whether on the property now or on LTD or any other kind of leave or even retired, will have his or her pension benefits reduced or changed in ANY way without their individual consent. Each one must have the opportunity to choose whether to accept whatever "alternative" is offered or reject it and keep their current benefit. I personally would be willing to consider creative alternatives for future pilots IF, and only if, all non-retired pilots were offered a substantial increase in the current pension plan benefits AND it was guaranteed in writing that those benefits could never be reduced nor be subject to change in any future contract negotiations.

The company....or the "future pilots" we negotiated "creative alternatives" for?
