FDX vs SWA
#102
Schedules were very productive versus weekend layovers here at FX that are typically 60 hours. We even have a trip on the 767 that goes down to Brazil and lays over for 92 hours. That would give the bean counters at SWA a heart attack. So not the most productive skeds in that regard. I have a lot of friends at both carriers and all seem grateful to have a good job.
Cargo can flow only in one direction whereas passengers tend to purchase round trip tickets. And we have city pairs where the cargo only moves 5 days out of the week and not on weekends. When that happens you have to weigh the costs between deadheading pilots or keeping them on a layover.

Ironically enough I’m sitting on a FedEx jumpseat as I read this. Should’ve pursued the cargo route years ago. The PAX & FAs are a PITA anymore (no doubt I’m getting less tolerant as well).
SWA flying is boring but not as boring as years ago when the stage lengths were shorter. Different strokes for different folks but I do regret no pursuing FedEx or UPS years ago.
