Default Pilot Credentials - IFR certified time

On the application:

"Total hours of IFR Certified (Instrument Rating) experience"

Are they looking for time in actual IFR conditions or the general hours after I received my instrument rating?

Thanks for the help.

I went with time since IFR certified (hours/years). IFR not IMC.

Ding! Ding! Ding! You're correct. To the other posters, why would the Company care "how long" you've had your ticket? They're looking for the amount of flight time in IMC conditions. You could have had your ticket for 10 years and never logged a single minute of time.

Agree with this. I imagine them knowing how much actual imc time you have is more useful than just basically subtracting 100 hours off your total time (in the neighborhood of when alot of us got our instrument rating). The question is worded weird, though. They should change it to ask about time in actual imc conditions.

Are you sure? It's likely that I have more than 10,000 total hours. Since neither the military nor the airlines record an actual number of "IMC" hours I have no way of knowing how many IMC hours I have nor any reliable way to calculate it?

Do I have to be in IMC to fly IFR?

Are the tolerances tighter if I'm flying IFR versus VFR?

I went with IFR time since I didn't keep track of my IMC time and my actual IMC time would be a small fraction of my IFR time.

Okay, so we've established that the only one that really knows what they are asking is the HR person that put the question on the app. As for now, I will answer it precisely as asked. "IFR certified" does not mean "IMC". To add to a previous post, the military does track IMC...it is in the INSTM column of your flight records.

Of course the time flying in "acutal" will be a fraction of flight time.

Filing and flying an IFR flight plan is easy, flying in IFR conditions actually takes some level of skill.....thats why they want to know if you can do it or not.

Navy logbooks track Instrument time.

I just entered the hours from that column.
