Is the hot mic an option for Boeing or did they just build them that way? The other two jets I’ve flown had a three position switch. I thought that was standard.

73s at AA had the same comm panel as our 77. However, 1/2 had a three position with HM, the other 1/2 had HM with an assist from a rubber band. Standard flow was: Ground crew disconnects after the push and you went hot mic. Safer to communicate in critical phases, quieter in general, and you aren’t shouting for hours.
Also of note our TNT 77s have a yoke HM activation. Didn’t know this until I saw it written up once for sticking, only to have MX respond with ‘that’s how it is supposed to be on this jet’.

i have heard, however, that in MEM it is hard to find providers that take TRS.
