Which direction are you from MEM? I’m east, near Pickwick, with hopes of leaving Atlas and getting on at FDX someday. Just wondering how it works for you having that kind of drive? Do you do it every day, bid out and back etc...thanks!

There is a thread on here somewhere where the topic of SWA in base vs. FDX not in base was discussed. I don't have time to search for it but you may want to see if you can find it.

I'm starting with FDX next week so can't give you any personal insight into what the commute is like, but I have read numerous threads on the topic and the general consensus seems to be that, with all the double DH pairings and the numerous company commuting options, commuting isn't that big of a deal.

I know you'd be leaving a good gig and it may be a tough decision being in base. I'm leaving a ULCC, living in base, and it was a no brainer for me. SWA is a great company, but I'm inclined to believe that FDX (and freight in general) will do much better in the upcoming recession than pax airlines. I also love the wide variety of flying and equipment options that FDX offers. I didn't like the idea of A320 for the rest of my career, so I can't even imagine how you must feel at the thought of 737 forever! (kidding, sort of)

Congrats on the interview!

wow 58 pages... lot to weed thru...

Does FDX pay for new hire hotels unlike Delta?

If I don't have a call sign, will I be assigned one?

TIA.

Hotel for New Hires is NOT paid for. Most guys move into a Crashpad for the 3-4 months.

I’m sure if you “try” hard enough you’ll earn a Call Sign for yourself. . Every airline has their 1%’s that do.

Well dont know your exact situation and how both jobs fit your style but consider this. Almost every month for the past 2 years one or more SWA pilots are in FDX new hire classes. I dont see any FDX guys in SWA classes. Must tell you something. My new hire class 2 years ago had 3 SWA pilots

I’ve met one or two at swa from FedEx , the lifestyle didn’t suit them. I heard commuting isn’t so bad because of the deadheads on trips. Curious to find out what I can expect schedule wise to begin with.

When I was at my regional, in the not so distant past, almost no one was talking about going to fedex. Most people talked about the big 3 and swa. I suspect that unless compensation goes up, that trend will continue.

What are the chances of getting CGN in the first year? I saw newhires going to HKG, but is this a normal thing or fairly easy to get in the first year if you are not awarded it on your initial bid? Thanks in advance for the info.

You’ll get CGN either in Indoc or within the first year.

Thanks, my wife and I are empty nesters so we would be really interested in CGN or HKG base if hired. Do you think it has any advantages to get called for an interview or being hired.
