uniforms for pilots

With regard to company uniforms for pilots, can someone summarize how they handle the uniform ordering and purchasing? Are you fitted and provided shirts or just given a stipend and you buy what you want? Are there guidelines on the type of shoes and pants you select? Thanks in advance.

You're given an initial store credit (and then a yearly amount on your anniversary hire month) with A Cut Above Uniforms to buy the company approved uniforms and accesories. During Indoc in Cleveland, you'll have the chance to try on the various sizes they have available before ordering. The uniform is very specific on the jacket, sweater (two types - Cali is lightweight and Maryland is heavyweight), shirts, pants, tie, and belt and you can only get them through A Cut Above. You can also buy anything else you need once the stipend has been used from the vendor. You can only see the uniforms once Flex has established your account, they aren't visible from the public side of A Cut Above's website.

The socks and shoes just need to be black, dress type (no cowboy boots, but Chelsea Maddox type are okay, especially waterproof versions...). I've heard we have a yearly credit available for shoes, but I haven't asked or tried to get it. Might be a good question to ask the uniform folks when you in Cleveland. The company will also provide a leather jacket if so desired, at no charge.

No hats or blazers unless you end up on the ILC fleet, then you'll be issued the blazer.

Perfect! exactly what I was looking for. And, i had actually been considering the Chelsea Maddox type shoe, so thanks for that info. As far as pants, are you able to buy enough with the company allowance, or do most pilots buy more sets? And in that case, as long as they are dress black pants, is it ok to buy other brands, or would the pants need to be ordered only through A cut above?

I was able to buy two pairs of pants and three shirts along with the other needed items on the initial allowance. I did buy 2 additional pants and an extra shirt on my own so I had a complete set of 4 uniforms. My initial set has held up really well, but I like to have spares...

You'll have to buy the pants from A Cut Above because they are a special design that has a brown pinstripe in them. They aren't plain black. I wish I could have carried over the pants I wore when I was flying on the 121 side before coming here, but not to be.

Ok. thanks for the details. so it is a standardized uniform but shoes and socks can be more discretionary. Much appreciated.

Yes. It very much is a standard uniform. Black shoes and Rick and Morty socks are the standard...;)
