Default Time as FI?

Hello,

I'm from Europe, and I will start my flight training next year at 24.
I don't really know, but what is the average time to work as instructor before regionals for the next few years? I will be normally legal soon in US

Thanks all

LG

Regionals require 1500hrs, so assuming you're a CFI at 300hrs you've got 1200 hrs to go.
At an average flight school that's almost 2 years.
Although I've had a year where I've instructed 1200+.

Thanks mate.
I was thinking about come to the US, but I don't know if it will be good for me.
I will start to apply for regional at 28 surely and I think it's late to consider a career in major after. Time for training, instruction and regionals take more that 10 years I guess

Not too late in the US at all. Might be pushing it in other countries, would depend on their rules and hiring practices.

If you make it to the Majors by late 30's that's plenty quick as it will still give you 25 years at a Major.
Plenty of other options if you don't.

No not necessarily.
But consider 2 years for getting to a Regional then 5 years to upgrade and 2 years as Captain at a Regional.
Round that up and you get to 10 years.
Hiring requirements vary year by year depending on supply and demand but its safe to assume you need turbojet PIC (Captain) time in order to be competitive.

Thanks! 35 years old pilot can be hired in major or it's too old?

This is certainly a potential result but I wouldn't say it's typical. This would be the high end of the scale. You could potentially go from zero hours to being hired at a Major in as little as 5 years but that's if the cards fall exactly as needed. A good rule of thumb is to hope for 5 but plan for 10 - basically plan for what you think is reasonable and then double that and that's your expected range of time.

Some regionals are upgrading at as little as 1.5 years. So, you can spend as short as 2.5 years before being eligible for the Majors. The big hurdle is the 1000pic (ie captain at a regional) which can be accomplished in as little as 1 year if you can average roughly 100 hours a month.
