local FBO question
Right now I am a junior in college with 0 debt. I really wanted to start flying this summer and even acquire my PPL. However, it does not look good now. First off the FBO that I wanted to train is a really small one with 2 planes and 2 instructors. Since I am not a U.S. citizen (but a permanent resident) I have to go through the TSA background process. I talked to one of their instructors who said he is not familar with the process, but will call me back later. It has been quite a while and he hasn't gotten back to me. I think they don't want to deal with it. Okay now I chose this FBO because it has a 150 for $60 and a 172 for $90 instructor fee is $30. The other FBO which is located less than 10 miles from my house is a pretty big reputable one and it is also pricey. Their 152 costs $85 and the 172s cost somewhere from $115-165. But, they are extremely familiar with the TSA process and are more than willing to get it going. (sorry i know its a long story but here is part 2)
I am determined to graduate from college by May 2008, and that means I am going to be taking a lot of classes and if I started flying it would be once a week maximum. After I got out I am planning to finish up with my PPL however long that takes and go to a place like Ari-Ben. Any insights are appriciated. I am willing to start training as soon as I can. I am thinking about bugging the small FBO by paying them a visit, but is it really worth it? What should I do?
