PPL / Commercial Costs?

I am finally looking into taking the leap and get my PPL at a minimum and if it is feasible for me, to pursue a commercial license.

I have done a discovery flight for both fixed wing and rotary and love them both.

I am located in the New Orleans, LA area and the flight schools in this area have PPL training for between $8500 and $9500 and commercial runs up to around $30,000. Do these prices seem fair? Since I am new to this area I am hoping to get an idea of what I should be expecting and what is the market rate.

Thanks for any and all advice and help!

When you have a fixed wing CPL you only need 50hrs for your rotorcraft CPL as you are switching categories.
If you have a fixed wing ATP you only need 250hrs rotorcraft for your ATP.
So choosing one does not exclude the other.
All you need is....money...;)
Prices depend on the equipment you'll be flying and their age.
A 30 year old battered trainer will be less expensive as a brand new Cirrus.
Mind you nothing in aviation is ever cheap, less expensive is the term.
