GI Bill-SR 1606
Has anyone used the 1606 GI Bill for flight training? I can use 1606 and the WI GI Bill. Anyone have any experience with these? Talked to the school, VA, state, and VSO. They seem to have just as many questions as I do. Looking to attend a 2yr part 141 associate degree program.

From the VA's website, it sounds like they'll pay 60% of the approved courses (Commercial, Multi, ATP). I'm just not sure if they pay YOU or if the payments go directly to the school.
For me, I plan on attending ATP Flight School this coming fall. Even though ATP isn't VA accredited, I did find out that I still do qualify under the Post 9/11 for reimbusements of select training up to $12,000. So, I'll at least get some help with my commercial

Macchi30 you are somewhat correct.
The VA will reimburse the student up to 60% of the cost of the training.
Now as far as for ATP, the VA will not pay any of the "Zero to Hero" fast track program. The curriculum is not approve at all for VA payments.
The VA will reimburse for the A320 type rating from ATP since its less than the annual academic max.

Not sure what 1606 means, but if you have the post 9/11 GI Bill it will pay for 100% of your training costs if you get it in pursuit of an Associates degree at a VA Approved Part 141 college. As far as I know, the WI GI BIll will not pay for flight training.

I'm currently attending Florida State College at Jacksonville for my AS in Professional Pilot Technology under the Post 9/11 GI Bill. It's a 2 yr Part 141 program, and though I have to cover Private, it will cover the rest of your training, plus the book stipend and BAH. I personally love the course and the instructors are phenomenal. FSCJ also offers a veterans flight scholarship to help cover a large portion of Private flight training. If you want any more info on it dont hesitate to contact me. Good luck, Brother!

Then that program horrible and I wouldn't touch it. Aims Community College in Greeley, Colorado. You can go from 0 to CFI in 16 month and only cost you about 5 grand after VA Benefits. If yours paying more than that, its either your flying alot more than the minimums to get the raitings or the school is screwing you over.
