CFII initial - Fort Worth FSDO

Anyone out there do their CFII initial ride recently. Mines coming up and I'm just looking for some tips on what to expect. I've heard some disconcerting things about the Fort Worth FSDO.

Ditto on that, but for Atlanta FSDO. Better yet, does anyone know how to get ahold of the pass/fail stats for CFI/II broken down by FSDO.

I did my CFI initial there. Who is your checkairman. You don't want to get "The Hammer" as he fails everyone. Outside of that they are ok for the mostpart. Why the CFII as your initial? Why not your CFI? You better have the FAR/AIM down cold and I mean cold. Don't take any oral guides or any books not written by the FAA there or they'll give you a pink. Also make VERY SURE you have all documentation on the aircraft and it's airworthy. Be able to show that all AD's have been complied with since they went into effect. A lot of places don't have a list showing all the AD's and their compliance when they should. My 172 has over 60. If he ask you to prove they've been complied with and you don't have a printout your in some deep doo doo. I didn't have them ask that on my CFI. But did on my CFII. I had never heard of anyone doing it before until then. The CFII was in Houston though.

I don't have my date locked in yet so I'm not sure who is doing it but my instructor did his cfii initial there and whoever he had was really cool and easy going so he's gonna try and get the same guy for me. Most of the instructors at my school did their cfii as initial and they recommended that approach to me as well. The complex I would have to take over there for the cfi initial is like a notch above unairworthy and they've shot it down before. I can do the cfii in the brand new 172sp's and have no worries.

They'll accept a straight leg airplane for your initial?? I was told Ft. Worth wants the initial ride done in a complex. Oh well, best of luck. Its a crap shoot as to whether or not you'll get a good examiner up there.

What ever you do, stay away from ATP. They are no longer the professional flight school they once were. Now the intructors are overloaded and ATP looks at you like just a number and revenue. Sad thing going on there.

I did mine there as well...with a new inspector. This was a few years ago (2004). I was her first CFI applicant. She had just come from corp flying the citation and told me that she didn't want the airspeed indicator on the 172RG to dip below 85 kts unless we were on the ground. "less than 100 kts in a jet and we're dead." Umkay

Slow flight....85 KIAS
approach to a stall....85 KIAS
Landing...short and normal...85 KIAS

After awhile, I just laughed at it and did what I was told...passed on the first try. She wanted flight following while we did the maneuvers (which is a pain in the arse around Alliance). The flight was around 2.5 and I would say 1.5 of that was clearing turns she had me do looking for a crop duster she thought she saw before every maneuver. I never saw it -- neither did regional approach. Trust me, I asked them on her behalf about 50 times! No Tx maybe?

The flight school charged me $38 to fix the claw marks she made on the armrests everytime we started to slow down :)

She wanted answers to her oral questions to be VERBATIM from the book. No applied "nonsense" with her.

LOL. Are you serious? Kind of hard to perform the maneuvers like that!

Try to get Arnold Thormeyer.... I think thats how its spelled. Had him for my initial was very fair. He will grill you on spacial disorientation (thats his thing) but overall oral was relatively short which I passed. Flight was easy quick and fair. He will combine things into one as to not waste his or your time. I failed the flight but not because of anything he did was my own fault for forgetting to do something. During the flight he will want you to teach him as if he was a student. Try to get him involved that his what he is wanting you to do. Ask him to do checklists and stuff like that. Anyways if you end up with him feel free to pm and we can chat.

His initial is for the CFII which in that case non complex is ok.

Yeah 3 other instructors including mine all did their II initial over there and they did it in one of the SP's.
I just need to make sure I schedule the one without the ADF !! ;)

It's easy, pull it out, remove the fuse, then put an "INOP" sticker on it along with one on the breaker. Did this with many many planes for IFR check-rides, hehehe.

Wow a checkride where I can have the examiner handle the callouts? That would be nice.

Squawk_5543 04-19-2007 01:27 PM

I can't believe how difficult it is to schedule a checkride w/ these FSDO guys....called almost 2 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything.
