Dead reckon dude...puts hair on your chest. Keep the GPS within in your flight bag (within reach) just in case.
|
Just stick with what you were taught. Always remember the most important airport is the one you came from. If at any time things just don't seem right, feel free to return home and go again another day(Mainly this refers to weather).
Have fun with it, don't rush, and congrats! |
no my aircraft isnt equipped with GPS I wish it was I have nav com which I use Vor to Return
|
Usually what I do is by their second or third cross country I'll take out the GPS cards and seal them in an envelope inside the airplane. That way I force them to rely on their dead reckoning and pilotage without the temptation of using that little direct button on the GPS. If they have to use the GPS cards I'll know about it.
As for any advise, keep your eyes outside. Make sure your instructor gives you all the proper endorsements as well. |

Unless they take another envelope! Just an idea. But I like your thinking we are becoming too handicapped by GPS. Of course that's probably the same thing they said about this new technology called VOR's way back when.

let us know how it went once you are able to get the cross country done. I hope the weather is better where you are than down here in Texas. I haven't been able to get any good flying in for the last two weeks.
Up here in the DFW area in the last couple of weeks I've been able to get some awesome cloud flying in and get some actual logged on some IFR xc's. But the Wx is no good for training :( |
