Default New GI Bill....

I'm about to EAS from the Marine Corps and am looking at my options for flight training. I'd like to get the training done as fast as I can, but the VA seems to only cover the training if a college degree goes with it. The degrees also seem to be something that I likely wouldn't use. Is it really worth it to go through one of these degree programs and deplete my GI Bill just for the additional BAH? The GI Bill seems to severely limit where I can actually go to flight school.

Well, the lack of ANY college degree will limit you too, not as much as it once woukd have, not to the regionals or even to a LCC, but at least right now they are almost a defacto requirement to a legacy major.

Check this for the ins and outs of how you can use your GI benefits to fund flight training:

If you're interested in airlines, it would be very risky to pursue a career without a degree. You'll take longer to get to a lower-tier airline.

Given the benefits associated with the GI Bill for a college program, doing an aviation university to knock both out would be the best idea. It will also allow you to get hired at an airline with only 1000 hours instead of 1500.

I used the GI Bill for a two year (Associates) degree in aviation and got on with the Regionals. While flying for the Regionals I was able to finish my Bachelors (non-aviation) through distance learning also utilizing the GI Bill...... the majors accepted that "checked box"!

It was a good fit for me since I was interested in flying airplanes and not so much the academics. Unfortunately, I don't how many two year aviation programs there are nowadays but it if you can find one it's a good compromise and gets you job ready!

Here's a helpful link but be advised, a handful of these schools have shutdown their aviation programs.

You can get both if you do your homework. I already had a bachelors but I got an AA and all my flight training through MEI paid for with the GI Bill at a college here in Baltimore

Do most colleges and universities recognize having a private pilot certificate, instrument rating, and commercial cert toward college credits?
