It is disappointing having an aviation education and collegiate flight training but not being credited for it the same as those with equivalent training.
To be more fair, it is either wasting 6 months of your year one salary (~$30k) or 6 months of your year 25 salary discounted to net present value ($47k at a 4% discount rate, $19k at an 8% discount rate).

Either of which you'd net against pay received for flight instruction (maybe $15k?).

Is this really such a burden?

The sense of entitlement today is mind boggling. Get the ******* 1,500 hours and go get hired somewhere, so the world won't need to listen to you whine.
This isn't the 70s and not every pilot wannabe is a rich kid. He may be one of the guys completely tapped out by the time he got his multi/commercial......... The sense of arrogance today is mind boggling!
