Default STAY AWAY: American Aviation Inc, KDAB

A friendly warning for students to stay far away from American Aviation Inc. in Daytona Beach FL. Reasonably good instructor, but it ends there.

1) Refusal to give you an itemized bill for what you actually flew (you now have no recourse). Flight and dual time must be prepaid in advance.
2) No set rates for aircraft or instructor fees, you "negotiate" ahead of time with whatever price you could get elsewhere.
3) Poor maintenance and aircraft shared with a flying club. Goodluck scheduling an aircraft when many other general aviation pilots want to fly the aircraft for themselves.
4) Very little to no transparency in regard to what's happening with your program. Insinuations of "under the table" DPE who doesn't ask "all the questions."
*5* Policy of extremely high cancellation fees for both aircraft and instructor. These are not in the Rental Agreement, and no other school in the area, or anywhere that I know of, does this.

If it were not for #1, I'd be disputing my bill with the credit card company and local police.

Be warned.

I'd steer clear of any place where the chief flight instructor calls himself "captain".

That sounds pretty shady. Thanks for giving a heads up to others.

This should have been my first major red flag lol. All I needed was some dual requirements met and then I was out the door, so I definitely let some stuff slide that I normally wouldn't

Big life lesson that was.

Wow, that's crazy. How do places like this stay in business?

By preying upon the ignorant or complacent

Stay vigilant and don't let your principles slide, even if you're in a time crunch!

Default Avoid! American Aviation at KPTK & KDAB 2017'

Stay away from this guy, and his time building planes, your life depends on it!!!!

Annual and 100 hour inspections and their documentation are seriously questionable!!!!
