Student pilot transferring from US to Canada
Hello!
I'm a student pilot (it's a hobby, trying to get my PPL) and I have about 30hrs and I'm practicing my solos now. I live in US currently but I'm moving to Canada soon permanently. Can I use this student flying hours I accumulated with a flight school in USA towards getting a Private pilot license in Canada, give or take? Will these hours be recognized? Thanks! |
If you were going the other direction, the total hours would count towards experience requirements but much of the required training would have to done by a US FAA CFI. I suspect CA is similar.
The US will actually give you a PPL based on a CA PPL. I think you have to take the US written is all. I assume CA would offer the same, so you might be better off just finishing here, and asking CA for a reciprocal PPL. You'll want to verify that with the CA CAA, I'm sure it's on their website. |

If I had a FAA issued PPL there is a way to convert to Canadian and vice versa. But I'm in the grey area being a student pilot and I couldn't find any documentation on this. I've requested a couple schools for info on this. Will update when I get a response. Thanks |
Like you said calling a Canadian Flight School and ask a Canadian CFI about it is your best approach.
My gut feeling tells me that all your US Student hours might not count in Canada because you are not yet a holder of a PPL US Certificate. The Transport Canada Documentation that is online link is Advisory Circular (AC) No. 401-001 - Transport Canada But you probably already know that. |
