Default Pre CFI school interview

Hello everyone! On Friday I’m going to “interview” with a flight school. They have a program that pays for your CFI rating if you agree to fly with them 800 hours. That seems like a good deal to me, especially because I can’t seem to motivate myself to study otherwise, and it would really help if they payed for my CFI.

Anyway, I put the word interview in quotation marks because before they “hire” me to attend school and then teach for them upon completion, they want to interview me. I asked what I should expect at the interview, and they said Cessna 172 related questions, airspace, and “airline” type questions. Other than that, I don’t really know what to expect. Especially for the airline questions. What could they possibly ask me in that regard? I’m not even close to that realm yet, so I don’t know what they want to hear.

Has anyone gone through this before? What did they ask you? Do you think I’ll have to nail it or I’m toast? Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

If you tell them that, you'll probably have to find some other line of work.

You can't motivate yourself to study for the flight instructor certificate: this isn't what an employer wants to hear. You're unmotivated. You don't care enough to lift a finger to help yourself. This is exactly what an employer does not want from an employee.

How is it that you can't bring yourself to study, but someone paying the costs of your study motivates you?

Your level of motivation will also drive your students. It's said that when a man approached Socrates about learning wisdom, Socrates led the man into the ocean, and there drowned the man, holding him under until he finally ceased the struggle, then dragged the man to the beach. When the man recovered, Socrates told him that when the young man wanted to learn wisdom as desperately as he wanted air, then he would be ready to learn. The point is motivation.

You want to study more than you want breath, so long as someone pays your way?

Learn to answer that first question; answer it for yourself, then for the employer, because everything else hangs on that question. How badly do you want it?

Treat it like a checkride I suppose. Know your acronyms, how to find things in the FAR, know your commercial privileges, and definitely know about your aircraft.
