Starting Flight School/Financing Options
 

Scottsdale Area. Looking for any advice on financing options for helping pay for flight school. I am changes careers and I am planning on starting my ppl and going on to commercial. Options out there? Tips?

There are many lenders that will loan money but may require it to be with a 141 school or college. There are a some scholarships out there and start applying for every one that you can now, most have deadlines and only do once a year.

Personally I would look for a university that has a flight program and use the feds financial aid. Check with their FA department but most of the time you don't have to start making payments until you go below half time.

We will have some scholarships coming up but we have some more work to do.

Update....I would be doing part 61, part 141 or college is not an available route.

I'd recommend working, saving up money, and then doing flight training full time.

Otherwise if you're inclined to take out a massive loan, ATP is the only option I can think of

Have you checked out Classic Air Aviation in Mesa? They appear to do 141 for at least your private and have access to financial aid. BTW we were just out in Scottsdale a couple months back and went "climbing" the Thunderbird Conservation Park, great looking area. I took an awesome pic from the top which is my current desktop.

That's not realistic for most people.

We've already had this discussion on another thread... Not realistic and not willing are completely different situations

I don't know many people who can save up over $100k in a matter of a year or two.

I don’t like the idea of doing nothing while trying to save a wad of $$$. Also, everyone’s particulars vary. I like action.

Sounds like you already have a degree in something, & just contemplating starting training? At least get the ball rolling with a private pilot ground school & maybe an ‘intro’ flight, low cost.

Age can be a factor with a career change, closer to 30 or 50? Any help from family? Be aware of peripherals, driving & possibly police record & any medical issues? Trouble in those areas could be a hindrance to piloting for pay.

Start hanging with like minded individuals, cultivate local aviation contacts.
