Flight Schools or "FBO's" in Florida
I am a highschool sophmore and am very interested in becoming a commercial pilot for a major airline or freight. Through research on and off this forum I have come to the conclusion that ERAU is just too expensive and not worth the money. I have been reading to go to normal college and get normal degree and get your pilot stuff from a "FBO". I am curious just what exactaly is it and what it stands for. I have heard from a pilot I know that Florida Institute of Technology has a great flight school. I would like to stay in Florida. What do you guy recommend I do and where is a good FBO in Florida?
Thanks |

Thanks i was going to FIT but in the end; its just as expensive as ERAU. Definition of an FBO An FBO is a "fixed based operator" is a service center at an airport that may be a private enterprise or may be a department of the municipality that the airport serves. The services offered by an FBO
Not all FBO provide such ammenities, some are just flight school and that is it. as for getting your certificates in a small FBO Flight School such as Wagner Airways, Falcon Flight, Epic Aviation, Aussie Air, Air America, < those are FBOs close to me in florida within a 10 mile radius. youll find one you will like florida is full of them. aviation capital of the world! |
I don't know what FIT costs for in-state, but when I looked into it, out of state tuition was horrendous. This is actually one of the things that made me choose Purdue over FIT; believe me, moving to Indiana instead of Florida was a tough call.
If FIT isn't too bad for in-state, it seems like a pretty good place to go. I remember the airport being a bit of a trek from campus, and I was less than impressed with the dorms, but they've got a really nice campus and a solid program. |
FIT is a private school, so tuition is equally horrendous for everyone.

It seams that FIT won't be much less expensive as embry riddle. Through the Florida Bright Future's scholorships I can pretty much go to a state school of free. Were are there good FBO's in florida?
