Instrument Flight Rules, After Months?

I have a couple of questions I hope some veteran instructors or pilots can answer.

I was enrolled in an instrument training program and completed all the ground school work required by the school per part 141 rules, and 95% of the flight training and hours as a PIC, including the 250nm cross country flight.

Training was on an analog six pack.

I then took a long break due to financial constraints and now need to get back into it and finish my training and prepare for the checkride.

Will all my ground school work still count (after a refresher)? Or will I have to do a do-over? Does it depend on the school?

I understand that I will need to spend some time in the cockpit or in a simulator with an instructor to get back to where I left off and continue from there.

Can you recommend a video course that covers:

Attitude flying
Partial panel
Cross country flight planning
Maneuvers
VOR/GPS navigation
Approach charts
Precision and non-precision approaches
Holding procedures

Did you do the written test? That expires after 2 years.

All of the other ground training is so you can pass your checkride. So although it doesn’t technically expire, if you have forgotten everything you’ll need to relearn it for the checkride

I forgot to mention that I was also studying for the written.

So, by getting a ground school refresher, I will be preparing for the written at the same time. That's why I'm trying to get my hands on a good video course. The textbook I have leaves some to be desired.

I remember the King videos from PPL and those were good supplementary videos. I might look into King. Can anyone recommend something other than King. I'm looking for something thorough, comprehensive. I honestly don't know much about the Instrument videos from King.

It sounds like what you're saying is, if I have the knowledge, and after some time on a sim or in the cockpit, if I can execute the maneuvers up to standards, then I'll be set for the checkride. Since I remember most of the maneuvers, including VOR tracking, and precision and non-precision approaches, I might just need a few lessons. But I will still need to spend time working on partial panel and holds.

I feel that the first step is passing the written.

If I relearn everything (ground school and maneuvers-related knowledge) for the checkride on my own, and then go in and practice them with an instructor, will the school honor that? I realize schools are in the business of making money.

My concern is that they will come up with an arbitrary reason and say that I have to go through the entire program again because that's how they do it. By the way, it's been 2 years.

Going through a 141 school you will have to fit into one of their syllabi. Have you thought about a part 61 program?

Not to come across as argumentative, but I did fit into their syllabus, I still have copies of every or maybe most lesson summaries with the instructor’s notes and recommendations. My binder must still be there at the school. Why can’t they just say, okay let’s go over a few things and you’ll be all set to start prepping for the check ride?

It would be a matter of whether the syllabus has any time limits. If you have completed some of the stage checks does their program require completion of the others within a certain time frame? That would probably be up to the school but any hard limits should be specified in the course outline.

And that's the sticking point, the course outline is very broad and general. So, I feel the school can say whatever they want.

I did take the stage checks, if I recall correctly. My instructor was talking to me about getting ready for the checkride, doing some solo prep on the sim and getting the written exam done. So, I was a few lessons away from going on a checkride. But, ermm life got in the way
