Pre-covid, any 61 or 141 school was a good way to a regional. Even today there are arguably many other places better than ATP flight school. ATP has hiring partnerships with tuition reimbursement but many would still stay the high cost is still not an acceptable trade off. I would avoid high interest loans as much as possible. If you have your heart set on ATP and you can cover some out of pocket, I would suggest pay as you go for PPL at another school, then finish the rest at an ATP for cheaper.

If you have the ASAP mindset, there are some decent immersion training locations scattered around the US, some run by former DPE's or former military pilots. They are somewhere in the $55k range. Way better than a pilot mill that rushes you to checkride like ATP in my opinion.

Sad to see that Lift had an aircraft go down with two fatalities today. Horrible news for what is a really close-knit student community.

You owe me $10! My friend knew someone that went to ATP and this person’s instructor was a janitor before going there. Now he flies a jet and makes $10k more per year as pilot than he did as a janitor. He was able to stop taking the bus to work and now drives his own 02 Honda Civic to the airport! He really turned his life around.
I’d say ATP would be awesome if your parents had lots of money or you can get the loan since the government is going to forgive them in a few years anyway!

Coming from an ATP Grad, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked being given the responsibility to cover the material needed on my own. I was given A MOUNTAIN of resources to learn what I needed to, and I was always given Ground Lessons when I asked for them. I'm currently a CFI, CFII, and MEI whereas my friends at 141 universities are still working on CSEL and some of them are still pushing through their IR... That being said it wasn't cheap. But you can't buy seniority at an airline so the next best thing is getting ratings quick and moving on quick I suppose...

As far as the loans go the feds won't give me **** for Sallie Mae That's all on me...

So you paid a boat load of money to a company who then expected you to learn on your own?

Default ATP

I have multiple friends that have went to ATP and they all had negative things to say. Only consider it an option if you’re planning on using the GI bill.

Can't use the GI Bill at ATP. The VA pulled out of that **** show long ago.
