Flight Bag Reccomendations?
This may sound like a dumb question, but i'm looking into buying a new flight bag to replace the freebie i got with my Cessna kit. Does anyone have any experience with using a standard backpack? I'm thinking about getting something like a Swissgear with plenty of space for a laptop, ipad, books and headset.

If it’s a backpack makes sure it’s got a cross strap so you can strap it to your right seat to secure it.
A ‘messenger bag’ style make sure it has an adjustable carry strap so you can secure it over the backrest of the right seat.
Apart from that anything will work.
I’d suggest you go pay a visit to your local thrift stores as they usually have at least a couple suitable bags in the $5-$10 range.
Seriously.

But a special bag now, it might be dated or out if production by the time you need it professionally, or might not meet the needs THEN.
Save a few $ when you can...get what you need when you need it, keep $$ around for more flying. SERIOUSLY.
Having a fancy bag doesn't help when you are $300 short if finishing.

Concur.....
Started with a backpack, moved to a military style helmet bag which I used for many years and then got luck and picked up a Briteline package when the FBO was getting rid of their flight shop. When just flying for me, I use the helmet bag. Flying for business, the Briteline.
As others hinted at decide if you need it to do multiple functions (fly, school, office, weekend), how much space do you need (more pockets is not necessarily better) and what's the budget. A helmet bag is $30-ish online and the thrift store is a great place for other small bags. Go with what works for you.

I’ve been doing this flying gig for a while. Get a bag that does multiple things. A previous post suggested that. Save yourself a boat load of cash by going to thrift stores or even some place like staples. I found a bag for 80 bucks that beats any ‘airplane’ bag out there. Just because you are going put airplane stuff in said bag, doesn’t mean said bag has to cost 200 bucks or more from a pilot shop.
be safe out there.
