Interesting. I had a student who, before flying with me, had accumulated about 12 hours before family and life happened and he took long break (like 20 years). I ended up flying with him another 10 or so hours as he had pretty much forgotten everything. He ended up soloing at like 23 or 24 hours after the stage check. Guess that makes me a bad instructor for wanting him to demonstrate 61.87(d) items with a high level of competence before soloing. Mind you, he ended up finishing his private around 49 hours which, compared to the rest of my 40+ year old students, was quite impressive.
