Best Flight School in US?
 

Hi guys;

without going to a University, what would you say are the top 5 Flight Schools in the USA?

I have researched Flight Safety International, ATP, and CAE among others. And I just seem to hear or find mainly negative reviews or enough negative reviews to make me move on.

I would go to my local ‘mom and pop’ but after getting my PPL there, the planes are ancient, I’m just not confident in trusting them to be honest. I’d prefer a more modern fleet if I’m going to go the whole way to ATP/CFI ratings.

Do you have any other flight schools around you that may have newer planes? even if its like a 45 commute?

There are literally thousands of flight schools, good and bad. Most people have maybe only trained at 1-4 at most. It’s going to be hard to find THE best school, but let me recommend you https://americanflightschools.com/

Tip number one- the ones that show up on the top of a google search are not it. They are just the most funded with the largest advertising budget.

Unless someone’s paying for your training, why do you care about a “modern fleet?” It’s like this- a well maintained 2008 Hyundai Elantra vs a 2020 BMW 7 series. Both get you down the road to work exactly the same. One just costs a lot more. Why would you want to pay more for the same thing?

Hey everyone

so I care about the modern fleet part because my local school is equally or more expensive but very old planes. For two years I wrote down that the heading indicator was precessing all the time etc they just don’t want to spend the money on fixing or updating the planes. I’d rather just go to a new flight school, especially if the cost is just the same

im thinking either a local ATP, or heading to Florida or Arizona if there was a school there that has a very good reputation

Honestly I think the more important factor is to get a good instructor. I would focus on that. Its frustrating to deal with mechanical issues but a bad instructor will cost you a lot more in the long run. I've seen some really good instructors at local flight clubs or mom and pop shops. Big flight schools are not a guarantee for good instructors.

True. And I had an excellent instructor, highly experienced and someone I trust. But they lost him and filled the void with hour builders with no interest in teaching

That's too bad! Unfortunately very common. Focus on that where ever you end up going.
When I was going through flight school I'd interview the individual instructor, which might be impossible at the big flight schools.
