which way to build multi time
 

So my parents gave me $10,000 for graduating college!! it has to go towards getting my 100hrs of multi time. I've been looking at two diffrent ways and want to get other peoples input. I'm currently working as a airport manager and make around 30k so i'm going to spend 10k to take a pay cut. I've looked at "The Aviator" and it cost $9500 plus room and bored and commercial flight. This time is split and i'm still unsure if most airlines will accept safety pilot time. I'm leaning towards they won't. I also know a delta captain who will let me fly his apache for $75 hour dry so around $130 an hour so it would be a little more expensive but I get to do all of the flying and don't have to worry about the safety pilot issue. Has anyone done the 3 week split safety pilot method and did they have any problems with the interview or airlines. I don't want to spend 10k on 50hrs pic and 50hrs safety pilot if it doesnt get me to meet the min.

Get your MEI and find someplace that will let you instruct in their twin

Fly the apache and split that time with someone else, then it will be 65 per hour

If you can, bank the money and find a way to earn the time. You'll need that money later trust me. Also, you don't need 100ME to get hired. I believe Colgan now is 500/80 now or so. The are many others below 100 as well. Standing by for Saaborooski's comments

I just got back from 'Aviator' and did 50 hours down there (~$5400 with room/board). You will get calls from places like Colgan, Comair, ASA, etc with that much time. Then you can take the rest of the money and sit on it for car repairs, etc.. I think most of the regionals don't mind if some of your time is safety pilot time.

EDIT: Cub, Colgan admin. mins on airlineapps are 300TT/ME ticket.

I echo what has been said above. Instead of spending the 10k to burn wholes in the sky go ahead and get your MEI as well as II. You can do both in the multi so you are building PIC multi time and you get more than just hours out of the deal...something to fall back on.

I'm sure you could find an instructor who wouldn't mind doing it part 61 if you got the delta capt's airplane. 130 hr for the plane plus 30 (thats generous) for the MEII....160/hr ain't bad at all.

Trans States recently hired a pilot based on the assumption he would pass his multi ride before class started.

I agree with a few above...get your MEI unless you have some other way to get free multi-time. You may spend 10-15 hours getting your Multi rating (no FAR hour requirement) and then you will have to get 15 hours of Multi PIC to get the MEI rating (61.183 (j))
That is my plan anyway.
Lucky me I will also get to fly in a conquest to help out a buddy of mine because insurance requires 2 pilots, but they only hired him. Woo Hoo! :D

He had to have some sort of good connection on that one. Or maybe some regionals can start offering your initial MEL in their RJ's:rolleyes:
