Default I've heard a lot of talk about ATP . . .

. . . and, I've done my research. I'm probably going to go to ATP after college (during college, I'll get some ratings and do lots of flying in my spare time to minimize my time at an ATP school.)

I just have a few questions/points that I wish to be clarified:

1) If you go to ATP school and obtain your CFI there, then you can instantly begin working as a CFI for ATP, correct?

2) How much time do you get to spend working with jets at ATP? I've watched all those "great" videos of night landings and what not on ATP's website, but do you really get that much time in jets? Or, do you just do a little bit of high-altitude training and ILS work, and that's it?

I'll post more questions soon. Thanks in advance for your input . . .

1. Depends on if you get hired. Also, you may have to answer phones for a while if they don't have a place for you.

2. ATP isn't flying jets yet, so I'd so none right now.

3. Don't believe the hype...

1) You can be working as Soon as you're done with your CFI. Only if you're waiting on a particular location you may have to wait if there's no position open there yet. There usually always a position open at one of the locations some people just want a particular location

2) I'm not sure if you're talking about the D-Jets. If you are the D-Jets aren't out the factory yet.....EVERY student at ATP get 2-3hrs of jet time in a CJ1 and they get a high altitude enforcement from it. Those are the videos on the website you're referring to.

3) Don't listen to the people who haven't been there and have no clue on what goes on!!!!

I don't consider 2-3 hours of jet time to be a lot of flying. 1+3 were also on the mark.

More that you'll get at any other flight school, not to mention the high altitude endorsement

Wow you changed that.... I was just proving that you don't know what's going on.... The gentleman referred to the videos he saw on the web site and those videos are of students flying ATPs CJ1 getting their endorsement. You do everything in the plane too except taxi it and start the engines. You take it off land it and fly it when Autopilot isn't in control. It's a good exprience. My ex roommate said he flew the plane for at least 1.5 of the 2.4 he got.

You're right, I thought he was referring to the D-jets. The CJ time isn't really necessary and the high altitude endorsement is about the most useless thing the FAA has on the books. One should be required to go through the chamber to get it. I got to fly a CJ for around a 1.5 when I was a new CPL. While I'll say it was a cool experience, big picture you're not going to get much out of it with such little time and no repeat exposure. Sounds like an expensive gimmick to me. I haven't watched the videos but apparently they led him to believe he'd get a lot of flying in jets, hence the 'hype' comment.

Ahhh I Gotcha. I agree 1.5-2-3Hrs is fun but it's not what it's lived up to be. I mean you do get to log some Turbine time though. The jet ride isn't included in the cost though. I think it's just something ATP does for all of their ACPP students. Although I think I paid for it in the 56K but that's another story. Don't be misleading though Slice, you said they didn't give any jet time but they do, may not be much but we get it. Is it something to base your decision on what flight school to go to is another topic.

You're right, I admit I was wrong about the CJ stuff. Save this post, it doesn't happen often.

More questions:

1) I've heard a lot about this great, one-on-one instructor to student system. Wouldn't that limit the amount of time each student gets to spend with his or her instructor to the point that it will take a looooong time to get all your ratings done?

2) How nice are their facilities and the "lodging" they provide for their students?

3) How come I never see any flights on their flight tracker
