Flight schools in Florida/Texas?
 

I have a few kids in my area that are considering flight school in the coming months. The end goal is airline flying or corprate. The 4-year college programs, Riddle, Purdue, etc, are pretty easy to sort through. I'm looking for schools take can do a zero to hero, program, mom & pop type operations to the ATP's of the world. Has anyone had either good or bad experiences that would be willing to share? If uncomfortable to post here, feel free to PM me.

I find it amazing that so many young people are looking into becoming an airline pilot. Does this surprise anyone else, or is it just me? What do these kids see in the career, other than there's a supposed "pilot shortage" talked about on the news?

Do they know how rough the lifestyle can be on family and home life? Do they realize how few ever realize a good ROI from the $100k they'll spend on ratings? I feel like these kids are going in blinded by the false narrative of a pilot shortage and are not seeing the big picture.

I'll never forget an encounter I had on one of my last trips before leaving for good. On an overnight, leaving the morning off. I am in the lobby getting coffee before going on the van and a late 50s couple approach me and make some small talk. Turns out their 18 year old son is thinking of doing the pilot thing professionally and wanted to know how I liked it and which route he could take to get to the airlines quickly.

They also had flown on my airline to this destination and had been meaning to ask one of the pilots, but they didn't get the chance, so I was more than happy to talk to them. I explained how that was one of my last trips and that it wasn't for me. I had a job lined up in another industry. I told them how cyclical the industry was and how hard the traveling is on the body. I'm sure they could see the bags under my eyes and the greying hairs I've developed.

Told them it might not seem hard for him now, but wait until he has a couple of kids and try to make life work out while you're 2000 miles away in some s**hole. Explained that if he really loved flying, then it won't hurt to give it a shot, but go into it eyes wide open...because he won't make much money until at least a few years into it.

So what does your post have to do with my question? Answer: nothing.

Well don't you have some responsibility to mentor these kids and WARN THEM OF THE DANGER they might get themselves into by purusing the career? That's what older people do for young boys like this !

Jut ignore that person. He does nothing but post pathetic responses about how he hates his career and his life and tries to talk everyone out of becoming an airline pilot because he didn’t like it solely because of his own personal issues. He eventually leaves and then comes back with a new username; I think he’s on his third or fourth.

Aviation has been a great career for me, it's afforded me a lifestyle that I never thought possible. I've been all over the world and as a result, have friends all over the world. It's not a job suited for everyone, for you I would suggest a career change or counseling.

Coast Flight School has a couple of locations in Texas (Dallas, Houston, San Marcos). Lots of planes so maybe check them out.

From my knowledge you have a couple options of programs in TX. There is Thrust Flight out of Addison or Denison which has a Zero to Airline pilot accelerated program. You also have US Aviation Academy which could either be paired with Liberty University in Denton or through Tarrant County College at Alliance. I think both of them have a pretty good reputation for what it’s worth.

Just about every airport in Florida has a flight school. Find a part of the state you wouldn't mind spending some time in.
