Medical Question
I got and passed my 1st class medical yesterday. I'm 38. That means I should be yearly until I'm 40 then it becomes every 6 months according to what I've read unless I read it wrong? Dr said I'll see you in 6 months because after 6 months it turns into a 2nd class medical. And he wrote down that my next scheduled appointment is Feb 2023. Am I missing something?

Assuming no limitations were listed on your medical, you are correct in that the 1st class status will last for 12 months. Likely a mistake by the office in scheduling 6 months out.

For most entry level jobs (CFI) and all 121 SIC jobs you only need a 2C. Most of us, when not serving as a 121 PIC, will get a 1C, allow it to lapse to a 2C at six months, and then renew the 1C at one year. Don't need to drop the coin every six months just to go to work.
But if you're actively applying to airline jobs (regional or major) you should maintain a current 1C because that's one of their application requirements. So every six months in that case. Also need a passport for airlines, with > six months until expiration. |

Does the first class medical certificate renewal frequency change after age fifty?

This can actually be read online, and every person holding a student pilot certificate or higher should know it.

Under 40 a 1st class lasts for a year regardless. Over 40 it’s good for 6 months, then reverts to 2nd and eventually 3rd depending on what you are using it for.
