I’m teaching my kids to fly. Even though the plane has all the bells and whistles to calculate everything the e6b can, they are learning the whiz wheel. It promotes a deeper understanding of math/concepts that we use to smartly plan a flight. This higher level comprehension comes in handy when the bells and whistles give you a garbage answer for whatever reason.
With modern GA avionics you can get away with a very shallow understanding of flying 99.9% of the time. That other .1% is why people keep dying for no good reason in GA for the same stupid mistakes. Don’t be that guy who killed himself and his friends/family.
