Check Ride Question Ref ME & MEI

I currently have a Single Engine Private Inst license. When I add my Multi-Engine license, do I do 2 separate checkrides, (one for the ME add on & one for the ME Inst)? Or is it one check ride that gives me both ratings?

I'm a little confused on this issue, all replies and suggestions greatly appreciated!

Should be just one that covers both. The IR is a rating and applies to all aircraft that are in the airplane category.

I earned my multi before the IR...but in your case it should be one ride with mostly multi stuff. I think you'll be expected to fly a single engine approach. Check the PTS...I'm not positive. Someone else will answer it before I get back to New York to check.

Thank you!

Its one ride since you are already instrument rated. You will be expected to do a single engine precision approach during the checkride. Your PTS will have the details for what Areas of Operation will be covered.

Here is a link on the FAA website to the PTS.

The PTS is the same one for you had for your private ride. The AMEL is in the back. Look at table 2-V, in the first column under the heading ASEL. That's the certificate you have now. It lists the tasks you will need to accomplish for the private (not commercial) AMEL rating. They include:

Preflight - performance and limitations, systems, and principals of flight - engine inop

All aircraft preflight activities

T/O and Landings, normal and short field (no soft field)

Steep Turns

Slow flight and Stalls

Emergency operations - V1 cuts, engine out maneuvering, visual single engine approach, etc.

Multi engine operations including a VMC demo, engine failure under IFR, and single engine approach under IFR

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 11:10 PM.
