Need some advise please!

Guys like i've said in previous posts i'll start my flight training in 2 months. Now i have some experience with aircraft. Crew chief on F-16 for 6 years, 4 logged about 6-10 total hours in varoius aircraft. And a RC pilot(not completly pertanent but hey its flying). To get myself ready for school(since i will be taking everything as night courses 12 hours total) i figured i would get on the ball some. I have been reading the Gleims test prep book for PPL. The Cessna 172 pilot guide(basically a book that goes over systems and mins/maxs of the aircraft. And a Navigation book(basically goes over history of navigation, different instruments of navigation and how to read them, NDb and VOR stuff as well. What else should i be focusing on i want to get as much info under my belt as i can. This way i can have a good heads up and save myself some sleep once i start class. Any suggestions.

I'd order one of the private pilot CD / DVD sets (King, Sportys) and work through those. That way you could focus on just the flying.

Yeah a good idea is to get a complete "home study ground school". That will really help you out alot and you will show up for your flight lessons with the knowledge of whats to come. Is your school a Cessna Pilot Center? If so they will have the CPC King ground school courses, or just order one from Sporty's.

is there a reason why you feel the need to make a comment but not explain yourself.

I think he's lauging because nine times out of 10 you can get all the ratings you need cheaper and faster at an FBO. Also because aviation degrees aren't really necessary or sought after and some would say they don't even have any benefit when you're going for an airline job.

Juice, where do you crew the viper at? Former CC.

Anyway...good that your reading the POH, and test prep. Also hit the FAR/AIM pretty hard Part 1, 61, 91, etc.. Other books...always been a fan of ASA myself. I did like their 'complete private pilot' book. Husband used it for his training. Umm...the FAA books aren't the worst...the pilots handbook of aeronautical knowledge, and an updated airplane flying handbook are nice for your collection.

But, if you learn better by seeing then getting a hold of the videos mentioned above - either through sportys or kings will help you out. I don't have much experience with sportys, but I did like kings. They should both have a whole set of videos. They are rather pricey the last I looked through kings, and sportys I'd assume isn't much cheaper...especially if you go on and get them for all of your certificates/ratings. Everyone learns different...the books worked fine with me, with a few of the random videos for brushing up.

Best of luck with your training.

I'm in the Texas Air National guard at Ellington field in Houston TX.

To answer Squak 5543(if he is in fact referring to the funding) maybe next time he should ask before making some bs comment like he left(ie lol - no comment). The Good ole united states military will not only be paying for tuition but also the Hazelwood act will cover 60% of the flying cost. So no i dought that a FBO will be cheaper. The only way i can get these benefits is to go to a recognized school. So that is why i am going to the college. And no I'm not going for a flying degree. Although with my current degree after taking the flying courses i will have the required courses needed for the degree (it won't hurt to have it). Sorry to go off there but i can't stand people like that. I am here for advise and someone spouting off comments just gets under my skin. But hey i guess you'll have those in any forum.

Hey now take it easy bud. We are all friends here and you obviously think the worst about peoples comments. I doubt anyone around here would call me a troublemaker. Good luck on whatever route you take. I have better things to do than pick on you for going to school......come on
