Embry Riddle Job Offer
 

I may be offered a job as a flight instructor out in Arizona with Embry Riddle. I was wondering if anyone knew what the atmoshpere was like there as an instructor...also how many students can I expect to have my first semester there? Thanks all!

Hey, I'm currently a student at the Prescott Campus...From the instructors that I've talked to, it seems to be a pretty decent place to work. I haven't heard any real major issues or complaints from anyone. As for how many student you will have, I can't say for sure. I know that we are really short on instructors right now, especially MEI. My current instructor has 8 students, and I know people with up to 11. But I wouln't think that they'd give you a full student load immediately.... Hope this helps...:)

Pretty funny...I just got a post card offering the same instructor job. They must be really looking for instructors. The card was addressed to me (or current resident) so looks like they don't really care who they hire HAHA. Says 15.77 to 22.05 an hour and other benifits.

I got the same postcard in the mail lastweek. It's pretty scarey who they'll hire over there now. I noticed that they don't even require a 4-year degree anymore. I flight instructed at the prescott campus back in early 2003, and I couldn't even make enough to survive on. The cost of living is a little high out there. Of course back then, there wasn't the hiring boom that there is now, and there weren't enough students to keep all of the instructors busy. Otherwise, probably one of the better places to instruct.

I don't think spamming people postcards is lowering standards? They are just a little more desperate for flight instructors to be in the pool(like everyone else). They will have students sit and wait a semester or two before they even think about lowering their hiring standards. They're just trying to get a bigger pool.

8 student load in Prescott and Daytona is common...you literally can't handle anymore due to duty day, time in each day, sanity, etc.

Good benefits you won't find at any FBO but similar to other aviation universities (can't compare between the universities, no exp). They allow up to 6 credits free tuition per semester. Depending on your career goals...flight instructing full time and getting an additional degree, masters degree, or even starting a degree doesn't hurt.

Get your MEI and your upgrade will be quick. Good luck!

Riddle will give you the MEI rating after you have given a certain amount of dual time on the single.

Wrong, they'll upgrade you. You have to have the MEI prior to the upgrade class.

Thats what my ive been told from some IP there (DB campus), but what do I know I just fly there.

As reliable as "some IP" is...they don't just give out MEI's. Maybe you are confusing it with a discount on the MEI course for current instructors. If you are an ERAU flight instructor you can get your MEI for about $1500 if you have 9.5 multi PIC prior to entering the MEI class.
