Passed my AMEL checkride today, now only six more in the next 2 months. :) Instrument is in 3 weeks....so I'm hitting the books....

WHOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

KiloAlpha 07-19-2007 09:50 AM

I can't image trying to do all my ratings in only 3 months. Congrats and best of luck.

Diver Driver 07-19-2007 10:40 AM

Congrats... wow, that's a lot to do in 2 months. Good luck!

POPA 07-19-2007 11:02 AM

I'm sure you'll be well prepared after two entire months.

Overall for the general population, I share your exact sentiments. I also know that there are a "few" people that this type is perfect for because they can soak it up very well. Still there's that whole lack of "real" world experience, but that's what makes it so fun.

KiloAlpha 07-19-2007 05:00 PM

AHHHHH lookout we're about to go into a cloud!!!

Puckhead 07-19-2007 05:38 PM

Congrats!! Thats a lot to do in such short time but if your dedicated enough im sure youll do just fine!

Lbell911 07-19-2007 07:07 PM

Which ATP are you going to......I did a "suprise" visit at two different ones, both Chicago & Orlando, was "NOT" impressed with their Flight Instructors at all. I had my financing all approved to go there, and cancelled my training prior to starting and the funds being disbursed, as I didn't like their attitudes.

They thought since they were a Flight Instructor they were "god" or "their **** didn't stink".....I was really shocked, and it was like that at both places.

Just wondering which ATP you are going to and if you have experienced the same!

FL600 07-20-2007 09:26 AM

I'm in DFW. Love it.

ATP in Atlanta was ok when I was there. It's a mill- don't expect to get treated well and you won't be disappointed with it. If you want to be treated well perhaps you would want to try and find a decent FBO or small-scale flight school. I know a couple near Atlanta that are top notch, conscientious operations.

The really important learning happens when you're the PIC...as long as he does some CFI or cargo or something else piston before heading to the airlines he should be in good shape.

FAA Commercial pilot training does not require a four-year college program.

If FL600's avatar is the person behind the computer, that's a very shapely "he." ;)

Congratulations on your new license. It sounds like you're the right kind of student for ATP. Good luck with the rest of the training and enjoy it! I flew with a guy a few months ago that had just passed his instrument check ride at ATP. He didn't know how to transition airspace at a class D airport, couldn't go direct to a VOR without using the GPS, couldn't figure a direct entry to a hold, deviated altitude in the old by 600 feet and then, after finally setting up an ILS, went full scale deflection and tried to land! He also couldn't say anything correctly on the radio. I'm not badmouthing ATP. It's just not a program for everyone.

AV8ER2 07-22-2007 01:36 AM

Has anyone heard anything bad about ATP PHX? Trying to decide where to go. Hows the weather been at the DFW location? Been getting grounded a lot due to the consistent storms?

FL600 07-23-2007 06:46 AM

I heard ATP in PHX was great....although it gets so hot that you can't fly in the afternoon.....

As far as TX...not grounded too much.

And no matter what anyone else says....ATP is not a spoon feeder. If YOU aren't motivated and if YOU don't study, you won't make it. It's a good program for those that can keep up with the pace and take it seriously and not expect ratings to be handed to them....but that's a whole 'nother thread.

Whats the daily schedual like at ATP?

ChillBillPilot 07-23-2007 10:33 AM

How do you like the ATP in DFW...I'm here in ATL right now in the private pilot class. Our class is really far behind, we are supposed to be finished with our private by august 4th. Started on June 4th. We only have about 30 of our 85 hours? Are all of the students down there on time with their hours and instruction? They are telling us down here that we might have to time build the cessnas while we are learning the seminoles in the ACPP. Let me know how it is in DFW if you please! Also at ATP you are right you do have to study HARD HARD HARD, but at the same time the first month I was here there was no instruction what so ever. We took our knowledge test then sat around for a week watching King videos that were preparing us to take the knowledge test that all of us passed. Things have been getting better though. Anyone thinking about coming to ATP I would not recommend ATL without making sure that there are enough planes and instructors!!!

Daily schedule varies due to a/c availablility and sim.....it's really great for me personally because it doesn't get boring and monotonous, and gives me time to study on my own. It also depends on the program you are in. The private pilots are pretty much here 8-5 -

Love it here in DFW. We are right on schedule - and sometimes even ahead. I bet you will finish your private by Aug 4th, then you will do your timebuilding up to the 85 after you get your license. As far as learning the PA44 while you are timebuilding- just stay on top of your game! I went out and flew a 172 w/my bf right before my Seminole checkride and it was fine (some ppl discouraged me from doing it - said would screw up my sight picture etc etc). The Seminole flies totally different to me than the 172, and in that way I was able to keep it separate. Keep on studying! :)

Congradulations on passing your AMEL... I'm down here in FLL got my MEI today. I Passed my 7hr oral Yesterday and the weather didn't hold out for the flying but hopefully I can get it in ASAP.

As for the other questions. ATP-DFW is BYFAR the best location to go. I've been to them all and nothing compaires to DFW. Just to give you a little insite. I'm here doing my CFIs with a guy who started the PPL in Janurary. I started my PPL April, I've caught and passed him. Bottom DFW gets you done, only if you're motivated. I have yet to meet anyone who has done it as fast as I have at DFW. Another example one guy I did my PPL with in DFW left and went to another location. The same day I got my Commercial ME he was getting his AMEL.

Again Congrats. See you back in DFW!!!

So what you're saying is that ATP is now authorized to issue certificates based solely on the oral?

keiundraj 07-25-2007 05:01 AM

No I'm saying I got my Checkride for my MEI today!!!!

FL600 07-25-2007 08:22 AM

I figured you were at CFI school since I haven't seen you around! CONGRATS! :) You gonna instruct for ATP? Did you see the new incentives? I'm looking at probably coming back to DFW to instruct! I've got about 7 wks til CFI school.

And I agree, ATP DFW is definitely the best.....
