Pay For Training
 

Good morning all.

Just wanted to through this question out to all of you.

I'm not sure why people make such a big deal over people who go through "pay for training" programs. I myself haven't had to do this but, I would have if that's what it took to realize my goals.

I have been warned about PFT from friends of mine that fly for airlines. Other than the romantic picture or some young guy/girl washing airplanes for flight time, or the CFI who spends years paying dues before moving on, I don't see what difference it would really make. Experienced gained is experienced gained right?

We all had to pay for our ratings, whats the difference between that and paying to fly right seat? You paid for the ratings in order to become qualified to fly, why not pay for right seat time in order to become qualified for a job you want?

Just wondering why it's so frowned upon?

(puts on flame retardent suit) I think most people are against it because your taking a job away from a qualified pilot. On the other hand some people really couldnt care less. If your talking about gulfstream I would stay away from that place considering your gonna pay 30 grand to work a job you could probably get the minute you were to recieve your commercial multi. TSA, PSA the list goes on. believe me though I have a few freinds from school who went to gulfstream and hate it but in the end you have to make your own choices.

Not when you're paying to do a job. It's one thing to pay for your ratings up until you can get a job as a CFI. After that, it does nothing good for the industry for guys to "pay for the experience".

I'd suggest, if you really want to explore our users opinions on PFT, that you simply do a search for Gulfstream, PFJ, and PFT, once you get ten posts.

This about sums it up. You wonder why Great Lakes pays FO's $15/hr? Because they know that somebody will actually pay to do the job. This place charges you $14k for 100 hrs in the right seat of a 1900.

The thing is, most of these are not required positions. So, how good is this time? Single pilot certified aircraft flying freight are not required to have an SIC.

In this market, the pilot is the commodity. Supply and demand tells me that you don't need to PFT. OR you can just give me your money and I'll find you a job. :D

You buy a position as opposed to earning it and can't understand the difference? It may work for you or others, it may not. It will depend on where you are trying to get hired and who's making the hiring decisions. I'd take the earner over the buyer 100% of the time...(not presently on any hiring boards, however). Roll the bones.:cool:
