Default Just trying to get a flying job!

Funny thing I was trying to get a job the same as everyone else. Not trying to steal a job from anyone! I didn't appreciate the verbal abuse at the expense of the instruction I paid for!

And with what I experienced, I can say yes I was "more qualified" them him. Not because of flying experience but from maturity and ability to take a stand. And since most majors do have a requirement for a 4 year degree (and those that don't, really prefer it) I think he should've focused his energy on improving his resume. Not attacking/holding grudges towards others with better resumes. Especially since he is benefiting by gain flight time, pay check, and a chance to learn from some very experienced pilots.

This individuals actions scare me to think he could be an RJ capt now with no fortitude to address a bad situation! Hopefully he has learned from these situations, but with his attitude at the time I doubt it. I understand that this individual should not be the basis of judgement for all ATP grads. But looking for short cuts only sells yourself short. I have a few friends that are no longer on the green side of the grass becuase they weren't ready for the situation that they found themselves in. This is a serious business, with real consequences! It's not about 99% of the time that all is well, its the 1% of the time we get paid for!

still took me 5 years to get my "dream" job due to 9/11! (And I'm much more lucky then good!)

On most Piper planes, the springs get weak or just stick. If you have any wind coming from the tail, some of them don't retract. Normally, just going out and working them a couple of times does the trick.

But even then, I get irritated when schools pawn off crap planes. I paid for a plane with x-type equipment installed and working, I will rent the plane only with x-type equipment working. I have no qualms going somewhere else with my hard earned cash.

Once you start there, it's tough to go somewhere else because when you cancel, they change the rates on you for the refund. It's actually in the contract that you sign in the beginning, so it's not a big surprise. For the refund, dual given in a SEL is $175, and in the twins is $350. And every hour you fly at ATP is dual given. The high altitude endorsement is a flat $2500, and you automatically lose $1500 for the non-refundable deposit. Plus they charge you $750 for the box of books they send you. So you might have only gone halfway through the program but only get about 25%-30% of your money back, and when we're talking about $67k, that is alot of money down the drain just for deciding to go somewhere else.

"I went to ATP and I would Highly Recommend it to anyone. My first flight in an Airplane was April 4th this year, now I'm sitting right seat of a E145....Now you can say what you want but NOWHERE, repeat NOWHERE else can do that. They did everything they told me they would do! PPL in 60days I got it in 32days PMEL, Instrument, Comm ME&SE, CFI, CFII, MEI in 90dayd I did it in 76days. That being Said I already had a degree in aviation so the learning curve wasn't as steep."

Prairie Air Service could do it. And cheaper.

Mine was April 2nd, I too am an FO. I went the FBO route and "only" spent about 25000. PVT through CFI. There are many ways to get fomr A to B; keep your eyes open.

Sounds like another reason not to attend. You should lose little to no money if you decide to take your business elsewhere. I paid in stages when I got my ratings. $2-3K at a time.

Me too. I know all of that because I started at ATP. I bought into the hype and decided to bail. I ended up having the most expensive PPL training in the world as a result, but now that I'm at an FBO doing everything else, I am waaay under budget and having a BLAST doing it. I'm learning so much and actually being able to pay mostly out of pocket. And the best part is that I get to fly solo whenever I want. You can't learn to be a great pilot if every hour you fly is dual. Try going to ATP and renting a plane while you're a student. YOU CAN'T!! If they are so confident in their work, why won't they let you solo? Oh yeah, because there is only time to learn, they don't allocate time to get experience. Yeah, I'd feel pretty confident 100% of the time if I had a CFI riding with me everywhere I went too.

Everyone has valid points, but if you want the accelerated program ATP is the way to go. I went in there as an 18 year old straight out of high school with a ppl and 130 hrs. Got everything done in 80 days and never failed a written or checkride. Two weeks after I got home, I received a job offer to fly Falcon 20's, went in there and ace'd the training. Now a year after the Falcon Freight job im moving on to a CRJ-900. Just wanted to let everyone know that it can be done if you really concentrate. There is one negative thing about ATP I would like to ad, the Regional Jet course is good but totally unnecessary. With enough studying and hard work you can skip that step and save a few thousand. If any prospective students have questions feel free to message me.
