Solo Shirt
When I soloed, my instructor made a solo shirt for me. I did the same for my student when I soloed her (only got to do one; most of my instructing was instrument/commercial). The scrap of shirt is still hanging in my parents' living room, framed with a few other memoribilia of that day. However, I have talked to an alarming number of students who did not get solo shirts. This leads me to the following questions:
Did you get a solo shirt when you first soloed? For the instructors, do you do them for your students?

Which solo.....C152.....or my first Jet solo T-37... or my high speed jet solo....T-38?......... they cut my shirt off when I did my first CIV solo... but that was when i was 16.....lol.... then per tradition I was dunked in a COLD kiddie pool of water outside the squadron at Willy when i soloed in the T-37... pretty daunting when I look back on that day... it was like Hop #8.. maybe 10 hours in the jet... damn of all the **** I lost to Katrina the pic of Ed Cazalari ( my primary T-37 UPT Instr ) walking away from the jet that day is the one thing I really wish I had back.

Ol' Dale from Arrow Aviation, in C Springs, cut the shirt off my back after my first solo. I took a little Piper Archer around the Pueblo, CO pattern while he went in to get some free cookies from the Flower Aviation girls! It's a great momento and is hanging on my wall.

I got the shirt cut from my back, and its framed ready to hang on the wall when I have my own place.
At the flight school I use to work at, it was sad. So many students were soloing, the instructors never took the time to congratulate and cut their shirts. Of Course, I took the time to do my students... maybe instructors are just getting lazy these days?

I got my shirt cut and I decorated after my first solo. As per tradition at the FBO it was hung on the wall in the FBO and I couldn't take it down until the day I got my private. Its a cool tradition I think, I wish my part 141 school had more fun built into it like that!
