Hey guys just a couple of questions on the CFI at ATP. I have a expired CFI I am planing to go to ATP to reinstate my CFI with a II and MEI. I have not flown a ME for about 10years , just flew a cessna 172Sp the other day that G1000 is a hoot lot of information at the tip of my finger.

I question Being ready for a check ride in 5 days. ATP advised just come and it will be OK!!!

This has been bothering me for days, I can fly a 172 no problem ,but to Comm standards in a ME and instrument Proficiant?...... Ahh no!!

or is this another way to get ya down there and rack up the bill,

There is no guarantee on passing the check ride, you simply cant guarantee a pass on this check ride.

need help on this One!!!

Look. You're comparing your old school flight training experience and standards to ATP. It's apples and oranges. ATP knows how to get your in and get it done to min standards that you never could imagine. I got my ATP there and they totally just train the checkride. It's kind of a joke, but that's how it works.

If you want to get it done cheap and quick, you can do that at ATP. Just don't expect to come away with the kind training experience that you have had in the past.

Here's the catch. You need to go into it totally prepared before hand. I'm sure they told you that. Whatever they send you before hand, Seminole manuals, oral prep guides, ect...you need to have that down cold before you show up. Same with the CFII written.

Make sure you can go there and do that program if you don't want to work for them.

I believe they will only accept you into the CFI program if you agree to work for them afterwards. May be wrong on that but I thought I heard something like that.

I think if you are new CFI, I have a expired CFI renenstate with II MEI

At least they never said anything to me!! I dont think I want to work for them, at least i cant afford to work for them!!!

As discussed elsewhere, the latest story is they are disallowing CFI students who will not work for them as CFIs afterwards.

de727ups said what I would say about ATP except that you can fail the checkride. I saw it happen and the checkrides are not at all aimed at ATP applicants. The difference is, ATP sets up multiple checkrides a week and they simply know what is on the test and teach to it without a hint of shame. I have no problem with that, but be warned that many flight schools do not hire ATP-trained CFI's because they know all too well that ATP railroads its students through their checkrides and such persons are not certified to be capable. To use a gauche analogy, the girl you went home with on Friday is not as pretty on Monday. ATP makes people able to sort of shine for a few hours, but does not make them into scholars or experts. The saving grace is that starting out as a CFI requires neither of these qualifications.

I agree totally with what Cubdriva says....BUT if you are already employed...ie. have a flight school willing to employ you as a CFI, and tells you to go out and get that CFI, I have no problem going to ATP or Shebles or any other accell. course to get that done. That being said, the school hiring knows that you are going off for a few weeks, and you are NOT going to return a god CFI. IMO it is another learning ticket, you must know a ton to get it, but you learn more when you start teaching others how to fly.
IMO.
