Not to flame but the attitude oozing from your recent posts is not helping anything. "I work at Mesaba so I don't make any money, but that's OK cause' I'm having fun. I have a great quality of life with lakes houses and such." Obviously not financed by your work as a pilot and therefore irrelevant. I can honestly say I've saved many lives in the past 20 years, although usually including my own.

Exactly. You show me a content regional pilot and I'll show you an individual with artificial subsidy/secondary/alternate income streams, which effectively relegates the profession to a hobby. In his defense, low compensation creates apathy, which further fosters the rationalization that it's OK to treat this job's compensation as a side bennie of your hobby. In the real world however, we all suffer from such "price elastic" attitudes (I'd do this for free, i'll do something else for money mantra) and so long as there are tokens like de727ups, who by luck and timing netted on the black when it was all said and done, the majority of hopefuls will continue chasing the proverbial carrot that's tied over their backs. This is what fundamentally keeps me on the fence about this industry and although I believe stories like de727's story are a dying breed, I don't have the luxury of time to idle in the festering pool of what is to remain before I become too vested to bail out.

Come on... I take it for what it is. It could be better. I'm not going to whine about it on this forum. My QOL my not be your QOL but I like it.

If I complained about my job I'd have many friends here.

Denial is no excuse. Good comes and goes but we all are the captains of our destiny. If you choose to avoid acknowledging the obvious then you are doing yourself no favors.

Look at how far the industry has slid in 20 years and continue that decline 20 years into the future and you will begin to grasp what you are in for. On average pilots have lost half their wages since 1978 and are working significantly more for that money.

By the time a 25 year old reaches 65 most likely every airline that we know today will be long gone.

"Hey it is what it is". "Don't worry". In time that mantra will be necessary to make it though the day as your friends and peers are buying houses and starting families.

You new guys would do well to listen to this gentlemans advice, and not to someone who is blowing smoke up your a$$ about the great pilot shortage and how cool it is here at the top. I bought into all the above during the 80's and I'm here to tell you, I wish that I would have done differently. Lets see, 10,800 TT, 8900 Turbine ,2800TPIC, furlough, Displacement, a 16 year ALPA negotiated no strike contract, change carriers, 9/11/01, divorce, child custody battle, and a second trip through college for my present medical career-I wish I'd just skipped all the latter except the medical career.

I wear my 15 year ALPA pin on my hospital ID just to remind myself of how good I have it now as compared to then.

Oh, BTW, this is my first post here, hello everyone, glad to join.

OK... I once owned a auto accessory biz. I was fed up with it so I punched out. I should be posting trash on an auto accessory board.

I once owned an Internet software company in the tech hayday...I got so sick of it I couldn't sleep at night... I should be trashing that industry on the evils of web programming being taken over by programmers from India. Big corporations cutting my pay driving me outta business! Nights and weekends at the office writting thousands of lines of code when I should of been home with my family!

When I look back at my sources of income nothing beats this job!
Especially the time I have now to spend with my family!

So bash if you will...I'll continue to disagree....
