Mult-Engine Rating
 

Hello , I am pretty new here ive been a private pilot since October 11th I was wondering about how much does a multi-engine rating average around I am thinking about getting mine .

I'm gonna say 2 to 2.5K.

from what I have been told there is no written test and you have to have 10 hours of traning right ?

No written, no FAA mins. 10 hours is a lot. Maybe places do it in half that. You need to find a place that does a lot of multi's.

Be wary about going for the minimums in terms of financing it though, the ammount of hours that it takes to get a multi engine addon can vary widely based on what your total and recent experience is. All of the training you get there though is very useful, even moreso if you're headed down the professional pilot route.

It will cost me $5,444.00 for 10 hours in a Baron. I'll be starting in two weeks. My college needs to get something cheaper like a Seminole or Duchess. Oh well at least it is good training. You might try to find a place that sells block time to save a little money.

spend some time reading up on multi engine flying before you start your training. VMC factors especially. that will free up some brain cells ahead of time.

Any Good books you guys would recommend for the Mult-Engine rating

Get the aircraft SOPs and information Manual. Also theres a Jepp Multi Engine book outthere but is not necessary. Read up on VMC, Critical Engine (types), Systems, and I think thats it. Good Luck

AllATPs has a deal called MIFR10 that gets you a multiengine commercial instrument in 9 hours plus an hour for the checkride. $3000. If you feel you are not all that strong they also have a MIFR15. I did the 10 hour package, I went in well prepared by working through the King "Cleared for Multiengines" dvd set beforehand ($200). The above post mentions SOP. AllATPs will send you the data you need for the Seminoles they operate. And skip the Jepp book. Get the FAA "Airplane Flying Handbook" as a reference, FAA-H-8083-3A ($20).

The real problem is finding a twin to fly afterwards! Very few are out there for rent these days and they want you to be Bob Hoover to qualify for insurance. A lot of people end up buying time blocks at Aviator and Skymates out of sheer desperation. Good luck!

Agree. Even if you get your multi, you won't be able to rent the plane afterwards. At most places, you will need to have an MEI seating next to you if you want to build time.
