working while acquiring ratings

Has anyone on this board gone the FBO route to aquire your Instrument to MEI? If so, how long did it take you?

It took me 3 years IR-CFI,II...got the MEI as an instructor. I was working full time and going to college full time.

I don't regret it at all.

Doing it right now. I've been working at it for a few years (student to eventually CFI) and expect it to take about a year yet. I've been paying for most of it as i go, yeah it's taking me a lot longer but I won't be 100g's in debt when I get done.

ATrack,

Yeah that's what I was thinking but I was hoping I might be able to do it in a year to 18 months. I certainly don't want to take out a ton of loans. I was looking at a program an FBO close to me has set up and they say $30K for everything(IR-MEI). Is that more or less than what you have paid?
