Passed CFI checkride today
440 hours tt. Always said from the beginning that I would never fly in marginal VFR weather...never imagined it would happen on my CFI checkride. Took off with 7 miles and a deck at 6000. About 30 minutes into the checkride it changed to 3 miles and 2500!!! Add to that 20 knot winds gusting 30 and pouring rain. I guess it was all worth a white slip.

DE or FAA? Long exam? Airplane? Gonna teach now? Good job. CFI is the entry level professional pilot gig. It works well as a hobby also.

Congratulations! That is a very difficult practical, and most are glad to be done with it. Enjoy the certificate. Get out there and start teaching ASAP.

Congrats, nothing wrong with Marginal VFR, you learn a little something of something.
|
Congrats,,you'll learn a lot from instructing,, teaching can be fun if you make it fun. Try to work in a sunny place like AZ, CA so you build time fast. Good money at some of the bigger schools now too.

Congrats dude. Get your CFII so you don't have to worry as much about the weather and build some valuable IFR time.
|
Great job Mix!! I stayed on the ground that day and you pushed into the Wx and got a CFI ride done. Welcome aboard.

Thanks everyone.
He was with the FAA so free of charge:). He was and "old timer" and very laid back....nice guy. He put me at ease right away. The oral was about 3 hours and the flight only 1 1/4 hours. The aircraft was a PA28R-180 that I had over 100 hours in. As the weather was getting worse I kept hinting at stopping the flight and finishing on another day. I'm glad he pushed me to finish it. When I talked about the exchange of controls during the passenger briefing he said "I don't want to fly...you do all of the flying and just teach me." He said he didn't have much time in the PA28R and it had been a long time. It's been so long since I did any instrument flying I will need a PPC to get current. As for right now I will teach part-time and go from there. I have a good government job and my desire to go to the airlines has diminished over the years. My first flight as a "paid pilot" is this coming Wed so wish me luck and thanks again!!

Way to go on passing your Initial... I had a similar situation on mine except I had thunderstorms closing in on me.. It really shows that you can handle a semi-stressful situation well.... Congrats and have fun instructing... Be ready to learn!
