Default Just starting out - need advice

My fiance is looking into flight schools around the country. We are both 30 and getting married this October and are willing to relocate for him to attend flight school but not until after the wedding. I am trying to get as much information as possible from different sources so this transition time is as easy as possible. The one school that we have liked so far is Regional Airline Academy in Mesa, Arizona. Does anyone know about this school or have any opinions on other schools.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You say nothing of goals and aspirations, or give any essential background information.

What is the ultimate goal? An airline job?

Do you already have the requisite BA or BS degree? You won’t even get an airline interview without one. If you don’t have one, you might want to consider going to an accredited place, like Embry-Riddle, where you get the degree and the flight experience all tied up in a neat little ball.

If you have the degree, then all you need is the flight training and placement help, if airlines are the ultimate goal. Does the place you are considering have a track record of helping to get the “entry job”? You are thousands of hours away from even being considered and have to rack up those hours someplace.

If you want to train in a VERY nice, livable location, I know the guy who owns this place. (http://www.sdfti.com/)

Talking Consider Several Options B4 You Leap!

There are a lot of lower cost options out there if your soon to be hubby wants to be a career pilot. Regardless of what KIND of pilot he wants to be the name of the game is this. He needs to get his ratings, get some flight time, and get a job that will allow him to get Pilot In Command Turbine time as fast as possible.

P.S. I wouldn't recommend Riddle unless you want to spend 1/4 million dollars for an education worth half that. Just my .02 nothing wrong w/ the school just real pricey.

I too am looking to relocate to Arizona from California and pursue my dreams as an airline pilot. I have my private, no college time but all the entusiasm and drive in the world. I have looked at www.atpflightschools.com and www.raaflightschools.com and both say that they are the way to go. RAA is almost $15k more than ATP due to their offering a type rating in a CRJ. ATP offers a 90 day fast track corse which sound (to me) like it would be advantagous. Please advize, this is a major move which would consume all my assets and I want to know from those who know, what is the best move to make...thanks.

How old are you?
Do you want to be an airline pilot, corporate pilot, or?
Can you go to flight school full-time or need to also work a job?
Can you finance your flight training (reasonably good credit scores with a job now or a cosigner is available)?

Are you putting the cart before the horse?

“ .. . no college time” is a deal breaker! You ARE aware that the college degree IS but one of the “must haves” -to even be considered for the interview?

Whatever else you do to build time and gain flight experience. . you MUST get a college degree! So, all that drive and enthusiasm is going to come in handy <G>

I think not having a college degree will not keep you from getting a FO position with a regional airline. It may help your chances. The Academy I am instructing at has had several instructors get hired without degrees since I have been there. Find a good program, start flying and work on your degree while instructing. Good Luck

Try to get your degree before you get to the regional level. You can get ratings and flight instruct while doing college. I fly with lots of guys at my airline who put off the degree until they got the regional job...well then you're gone all the time, get married, kids maybe...no chance in heck of working on that degree now, so you're stuck at a regional the rest of your life.
