ATP Phoenix
Hello all,
I was just seeing if anyone here is currently attending the ATP PHX location or anyone who has attended that location? I am looking to start my PPL in August 08 and then continue on with my 90 fast track program. Just curious as to how much free time you have during this training and just the overall experience while you where there. Thanks in advance. |
The Stanfield VOR will become your best friend.

I did the entire program at the ATP PHX location (PPL to CFIs) and am now an instructor here in PHX.
Free time is pretty minimal for the most part, you only get a handful (less than 5) real honest days off for the entire thing. I'm probably biased but I liked the program overall. I wish I had gotten the RJ Course instead of the 1.5hrs in the CitationJet, but the RJ is now standard. PM me if you have any more Qs. |
hey rthompsonjr how do you like it out there in phx? im thinking of flight instructing out there for panam academy any thoughts on them?

My cousin is a DPE here in the Valley and he was wanting me to go to PanAm. He had lots of good things to say about them, I just decided on staying with ATP because the commute was shorter and I know the system.

would you HONESTLY say that the 60day and the 90day overwhelmed you? I'm finishing up A&P school and just about ready to turn my app into ATP and was concerned that i might fail since the program seems so fast.

Depends on the student, I had a couple of roommates drop out because they felt overwelmed, but on the flipside there were definatly portions of the program that I felt bored because the pace had slowed down from what I was used to.
The two blocks that seem to trip up the most people is the PMEL and Instrument. You have one week for the PMEL and 26 or 28 days for Instrument. If you realize that you have to work for it and commit yourself to just being a student pilot for the next six months then you'll get through. It sucks not having a life, but whats six months of hard work for a career you want? I'm not a koolaid fan, but having seen what my fiance had to go through elsewhere just for her PSEL Instrument, I think ATP is a damn good way to get where you want to be. Just don't be one of theose people who jump staight to an airline. I've only been instructing for a month and I already have learned a bunch more. |
I'm just afraid that I'm going to be pulling out apx 60k+ for all of this. Just seems like a lot of info to cram in 6 months. I was reading the other thread... you can't fail the MEI more than twice?
Say that you don't feel ready for the checkride... can you reschedule? or do you HAVE To follow their timeline? Do you have any info on the RIC location? Plan on going there and probably live with my father for the time that I'm in school. |
Double busts are pretty much the end no matter what checkride its on.
If your instructor doesn't think you'll pass they will delay your ride, but not for weeks on end. If you are a 90 Day student they may suggest the 10 Month program at that point if you are really behind. I don't know a thing about RIC, sorry. |
PHX Rocks! Richmond is a smaller location. Not to familiar with it either. But, I definately think that it would be best to visit and tour the locations that you are interested in before making any sort of decision. You should be able to guage if you will like the facility within a couple of minutes and by talking to as many students and instructors. You have to like the location to be able to get through the 90 day and it doesnt hurt to get to know some of your possible instructors.
