Are these prices in the normal range?

I'm looking at this flight school, and was wondering if the price for your PPL (plane, materials, everything) was in the normal range.

It says that PPL is 7,660, Instrument is 5,390. I almost spit my drink at the monitor when I saw that. If I couldn't find a better deal, though, I might go there for a few lessons.

Looking at their rental rates for 172's, I'd say they are a little high, but with fuel having gone through the roof, it's really pretty hard to say. When you factor in a good CFI and that fact that it's local, it's probably worth it. You have to look at the competition in the area, as well. You can probably find a better deal in the middle of Kansas somewhere, but that doesn't mean much unless you want to go to the middle of Kansas to fly.

Their rental rates aren't too bad. It's about what I am paying in Tampa right now. It looks like their instructor prices are pretty high. I am paying $45/hr right now. I am shooting for a little over $5k for my PPL.

Their instrument seems high too. I love the PCATD, that looks like fun.

How much are they charging per hour for instructors?

Where I rent from, 172s (150 hp, ridiculously bad interiors - I cut myself on the plastic putting my seatbelt on, 2 VORs and DME) are running 100 bucks including tax. They run them on 87 octane, however. 100LL could easily cover the delta.

Hey at least you arent being charged 13K (dry) for your PPL like FIT is going to do next semester, talk about a ripoff

are there a lot of planes running on that stuff? I haven't seen any airports that have it either...

Those are just about the rates here in SE Florida. I could probably find a school or two that's a little cheaper.

I haven't seen 80/87 in years and would be surprised if that's accurate. More likely, they are burning 87 octane auto gas, which is perfectly legal if you have the STC.

Those prices look just about right, maybe even a little low for that area. I used to flight instruct in LEX back in 2003 and we charged $105.00/hr for a C172 and $40/hr for instructor.

This place is charging $110/hr for the 172 and $34/hr for instructor; seems fair.

Where I got my ppl license 4 years ago, it was $110/hr with instructor in an 01' skyhawk. Boy to prices go up.
