Rainy Seattle

I live in Seattle, that is known for its rainy and windy days.
Just about ready to do actual flying (almost done with ground school).
Would you suggest me to wait until summer time and save up a bit more money to fly in less troubled clear sky, or learn to fly in rain?

Hi,

I would learn to fly in the rain. You need to learn to fly in all sorts of wx to make you a better pilot. I fly in New England and take my students out in all sorts of condition given if its legal and safe. WX can change fast and should be prepared to handle the worst. If you fly in a lot in the bad WX it makes the good seem all worth it.

You will save money if the weather is better durring your training, you will fly more often and lose less skill if you fly durring the summer. You will eventually gain experience flying in all sorts of situations, but that doesn't have to be durring your initial training.

There are benifits to both :) .

I'd do it. You'll have a few cancelled lessons, but you'll learn to evaluate the WX and make go/no-go decisions, and to judge distances while flying in the vicinity of clouds.

If you get a little IMC early on (w/ your CFI!) that can be a lifesaver if you get into later while soloing w/o an instrument rating.

Have your CFI show you have the localizer works.

The plane you're flying will get a nice cleaning!

As long as you stay legal and the weather is safe, there's nothing wrong with flying in rain. It just gets a little noisy on the inside.
